Why is the installer unsigned, and is it safe?

During our initial launch the installer is not yet code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show a blue “Unknown publisher” prompt — click More info, then Run anyway. “Unknown publisher” means Windows hasn’t yet built reputation for a brand-new app; it is not a malware detection. You can verify what the agent does: it has no remote-control or remote-shell capability, it only reads local health metrics (hostname, disk, CPU, RAM, battery, optional crash summaries) and sends them to your own account when signed in, and any repair tools run locally on the PC in front of you. Prefer to skip the browser prompt? Install via WinGet — run “winget install ReTang.SysOverlay” — which downloads through the package manager instead of the browser (Windows may still show a first-run prompt while the app is unsigned). Authenticode code signing is planned, which will remove the prompt entirely.
